What Should an Invoice Include in Nigeria?
The fields that make an invoice look professional and get paid faster — and which ones are optional depending on your business.
There's no single official form an invoice in Nigeria must follow. What matters in practice is that it's clear, complete, and professional enough that your customer can process it without coming back to you with questions. Here's what that looks like broken down by field.

Fields that are optional but often expected
- Due date or payment terms ("due on receipt," "Net 7," "Net 14") — not strictly required, but an invoice with no due date gives the customer little reason to prioritize paying it.
- RC number — your business's registration number, if registered. Common when invoicing other registered businesses.
- Tax ID (TIN) — again, optional, and more relevant depending on your business and customer.
- Your logo — not functionally necessary, but it makes an invoice look considerably more professional at a glance.
- Tax/VAT — only where applicable to your business. Whether you're required to charge VAT depends on your specific circumstances and current regulations; it's not something to add automatically. Check current requirements or speak with a qualified tax professional if you're unsure.
- Notes — a thank-you line, delivery instructions, or anything else specific to the order.
